Question

Data Imports: Wizard vs Advanced Settings

Could someone provide the main or overall differences of the two methods of importing data in to the system?  bpm’online developers have created the Data Import wizard, located under the System Designer to supplement (or replace?) the data import functionality via the Advanced Settings.  I assume the wizard does a lot more such as creating defaults, lookups, and associations that the latter does not.

Questions

  1. So using Contacts for example, if I imported the same contact data, one attempt via the wizard and another attempt via the Advanced Setting, how would the results be different (assume the system is empty both times)?
  2. When would one method be more appropriate than the other?
  3. Will the Advanced Setting method become deprecated?

Dear Stephen,

The Import data tool in the Advanced settings is outdated. It was used in the older versions of the system.

In newer versions of bpm'online that old interface was substituted by the new one and by the Data import tool that we have in the System designer now.

The functionality of both tools is the same so that the actual result of the data import using the old and new interfaces will be the same. We did not delete the old UI as there are still the customers who got used to use it.

Best regards,

Lily

So even though the Advanced Setting version is old, bpm'online is maintaining this UI version to keep the functionality the same "under the hood" between the two?  i.e. they call the same programing classes or modules.

Dear Stephen,

The basic functionality of these two versions is the same but the Data import tool in new UI was created in a rather different way than the old one. The main idea of creation a new tool is to simplify the UI and make it user-friendly. if you have some additional questions, please feel free to ask but be more specific.

Regards,

Lily

I guess that  is what is I am aking.  I don't know the specific differences between the two.  What can one tool the other cannot and vise versa.  Is there documentation especially comparing the two tools?  I want information to decide which to use based on my requirments.

Dear Stephen,

Unfortunately, there is no documentation on comparing two functionalitties. Please note that we do not suggest to use the outdated functionality since it is not developed and supported any more. We suggest to stick with the new UI file import.
